Lyrics:
Science was his job, his name was Joseph James Remembered all the faces, but he couldn't place the names But whoa, he never stopped the show Travelling with memories and a case full of wonder Always on the road, whatever weather he was under But whoa, he never stopped the show Kept chemicals in his pockets and goggles on his head Used to work on the rails but preferred this road instead But whoa, he never stopped the show A girl fell in love with him but working was his mission Went right back to his lab and perfected cold fission But whoa, he never stopped the show Five years later on in life, he saw the girl at the theatre He plucked up all his courage and decided he would meet her She'd grown up a lot since then and she'd found another guy His confidence was ruined, so he waved the girl goodbye But whoa, he never stopped the show He noticed something difficult in the time they were apart Science can't fix everything, not even a broken heart But life's too short for sadness so he picked up his mistakes And threw them out the window, 'cos that's just what it takes And whoa, he never stopped the show Three years after this, he was speaking in town aloud And something caught his eye, it was someone in the crowd He ran to her and held her and they stood there in the night But one thing then occurred to him: was the chemistry just right? But whoa, he never stopped the show No he never stopped the show
Notes: Yeah, I don’t like this one either. The concept of it was okay but it drags, doesn’t it? My reasoning behind making it so long was somewhere between “I can’t be bothered to add structure to this song” and “Wow my songs are all pretty short I should make a long one”. Turns out long songs suck
to be fair, all english folk music is repetitive too. i am a pioneer
